Stencil street art is a form of graffiti that makes use of stencils made out of paper, cardboard, or other media to create an image or text that is easily reproducible. The desired design is cut out of the selected medium and then the image is transferred to a surface through the use of spray paint or roll-on paint.
Because this type of art work can be pre-prepared, it is well-suited for expressing political views artfully in public spaces. The artist can “publish” the art in a matter of seconds – and quickly withdraw from the scene.
In this workshop, we will learn about political stencil street art from Iranian stencil artist ill – and learn some basic techniques to enhance our practical ability to express ourselves through this powerful art form.
